Pumpkin Protein Smoothie

If you remember my post about fitness nutrition, you'll remember that "Building body composition requires consuming good, whole sources of protein and carbohydrates from eggs, poultry, seafood, and other lean meats after a workout".  And you'll remember that I said I've been hooked on a delicious pumpkin protein smoothie. While I usually try to vary my post workout meals to make sure I'm getting a variety of nutrients, this pumpkin smoothie is so good I've been eating it nearly every day for a week after I get home from the gym. Pumpkin is a great source of whole carbohydrates that doesn't hurt the gut. For a whole source of easily digested protein, I've added egg whites, but if you can also add real whey. We're going for all-natural here, but if you need to use your own protein powder, just make sure it does not contain sugars or other additives. Just whey protein isolate.

This smoothie reminds me of the pumpkin shake from Our Best Bites, which I was also addicted to at some point in my life;) It's cool and refreshing, but also has those heart-warming fall spices that make you wanna melt. If you find it's hard to get in a post workout meal between 15-30 minutes of your workout, you can double or triple this and freeze individual servings, take it with you, and let it thaw as you work out. Best slushy you'll ever have!!!

Pumpkin Protein Smoothie
Author: Amy MoffatPrep time: 2 minServings: about 3 cups

Ingredients:

1 cup blended ice (about 10 ice cubes)
1 c fresh pumpkin puree (if you're not on GAPS.. I guess you can used canned pumpkin)
1 banana
4 egg whites (or 1/4 c whey)
3 Tbsp honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
dash nutmeg
dash cloves

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a blender.
Blend until it oozes out the sides.
Enjoy!

      haha i know! there are so many awesome pumpkin recipes but most are all pies or custards. This recipe is way easier;) I hope you like it!
